As we learn more and more about the amazing intricacies of the human body we are better able to understand and theorize the impact that a chiropractic adjustment has on the patient (hint: its effect is mainly on the brain and nervous system, not your spine!). The chiropractic adjustment is completely unique in the realm of healthcare, and there is no replacement for its ability to affect the neurophysiology of the body.

Your brain coordinates millions of biochemical reactions and physiological processes throughout your body every second of every day, and most of them work perfectly day in and day out without so much as a thought. When your body is given the healthy necessities it requires (healthy food, healthy exercise, healthy sleep, and healthy thoughts), the outcome is health! When your body is affected by unhealthy things (physical, mental, emotional, or chemical stresses), the result is stress on your brain and nervous system. What happens when your brain and nervous system are under more stress? Those millions of reactions and processes we just mentioned your brain and nervous system are in charge of start to fail. When you visit our clinic you’ll find a wide range of clientele. Our patients range from a few weeks old, to the elderly. As you can imagine, patients in different stages of life come in for different reasons, whether it be pain related, performance related, immune system related, or just for fine tuning. It’s pretty rare to have a two week old throw their back out! Because of this, the adjustments also differ from patient to patient, depending on the case. Adjustments can be the quick and loud kinds that are plastered all over YouTube for your viewing pleasure, or in the case of a pregnant mother or infant, they can be very gentle, with no clicking or popping at all. If you have any worries or concerns prior to your adjustment please voice them, our doctors are happy to make changes to allow for your comfort. Palmer, who theorized a bone out of place impinging on Harvey’s nerves must have been the cause for the loss of hearing. Though the specifics of that day are lost to history, modern science has given us a much more accurate theory of the chiropractic adjustment and it’s affect upon the brain and the nerves that are intricately wired throughout the spine. Neuroscience now understands that your brain is like an amazing computer. It is constantly being bombarded by messages and signals from the millions of nerves throughout your body. But there are two areas of the body that these messenger nerves are incredibly numerous; the top and the bottom of your spine. When these nerves are sending the wrong information to your brain, it alters your brains ability to make the proper response. Just like a computer, wrong input, wrong output. There are multiple reasons why the nerves in your spine may be sending incorrect messages to your brain.
